Atwood 550 Paracord (30 m)
Seven-strand 550 cord. Thirty metres covers a tarp rig with enough left for repairs and the knot practice the syllabus assumes.
“At least 30 m of cordage rated to 250 kg or better.”
L1-COR-01 requires at least 30 m of cordage rated to 250 kg or better. The length is set by what a full tarp rig plus guy lines actually consumes — students who bring 15 m spend the shelter module short of line and learn the wrong lesson.
What it does well
- Inner strands are usable as repair thread and snare line
- Genuine 550 spec rather than the unrated "paracord-type" cord sold widely
- Cheap enough to cut freely, which matters for learning
What to know before you buy
- Stretches under load — not a substitute for climbing rope, ever
- Ends must be melted or they unravel immediately
